Friday Feature - Local Music

Our local Friday feature artist is 'Calm Palm Vapor'.  Hailing from the southside of Chicago, this duo has invented their own brand of music dubbed 'Space Motown'.  What's that you ask?  As they put it 'blissed out guitars and triumphant melodies contrasted with Motown bass and beats'.

We gave their new album a listen, you can too! It's free for download for a limited time, if not forever.. the boys haven't decided yet. The sound, as I interpreted it, is layered and dreamy.  Fuzzed out ambient distortion envelopes the melodies.  Some tracks are soft and angelic throughout but the tracks that stick most in my mind are the ones that aren't like 'Everyday We Grow'.  Perhaps I'm just a sucker for sharps and flats..

In contrast to the spacey quality the recordings emote, the live show is hailed as a high energy experience. Well it sounds interesting to say the least. We can't wait to see the pair in action on Saturday night!  They'll be at Simone's in Pilsen playing a free show w/ Panda Riot, Vehicle Blues and a DJ Set by Wolf in a Spacesuit.

If you don't know, now you know - Snacks the Cat Video Debut

Bethany, the super stoner bitch from Best Coast is so obsessed with her cat "Snacks the Cat" that he's made its way onto BC's album cover, has its own twitter account (@snacksthecat), and is now directing their music videos, stoned . . .

Stream The Go! Team - Rolling Blackout

The Go! Team's third album is ripe for the punch featuring sounds that remind me of being a dumb teenager but in that warm fuzzy l dance my ass off kinda way. The screamy pop album album features spots from Deerhoof's Satomi Matsuzuki and Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino. This dance music catchy enough to make a skinny jean clad, ray ban wearing youth blush and groove.
